This week Becky and Dan talk about the violence they’re surrounded by in the city of New Orleans. Outside of the surrounding areas, not many people know just how violent the city is. The murder rate doesn’t paint a full picture, you also have to consider the number of shootings and violent crimes where people don’t die. We take a look at the first week in December 2019 alone where there were 20+ people shot. These are just our experiences and opinions after living here for well over a decade.

Episode 118: Law School


Ann, Becky, and Dan discuss law school and becoming an attorney. Ann offers some advice to people who may want to pursue becoming an attorney. One of the things she recommends is to avoid majoring in pre-law and instead major in English or math and then attend law school. There’s not much you can do with a pre-law degree if you decide you don’t want to (or can’t) become an attorney.

Episode 117: How to Become a Landlord.


This week Ann, Becky, and Dan discuss being a landlord. We often talk about leasing from the perspective of a tenant but this week we take a look at leasing your property as a landlord. Ann shares some things that you should place into your lease (if your state allows) to offer you as much protection as possible for the property owner. We look at things like acceptable noise levels, number of occupants, subleasing, maintenance, property inspections, and in Dan’s case wanting to disallow his tenants from having parties/gatherings. We also discuss the eviction process and how to place numerous items in your lease that if committed would immediately breach the lease and offer you a way to evict your tenants.
