This week Ann, Becky, and Dan talk about Jim Crow laws that are still on the books. Racial restrictive housing covenants prevented Black people from purchasing homes or living in “non-Black” neighborhoods. Although these covenants aren’t enforceable, they can still be found in some deeds in 2020. It’s said to be cost-prohibitive to eradicate these covenants, essentially leaving them in place. We discuss how these covenants destroyed our communities and how our historically segregated neighborhoods (read BLACK) are now being decimated by gentrification.
